    Hi Susanna,

I am surprised the banner does not have “Unitarian Universalism” on it. I wonder if there are plans to do that or can it be added on.

    Thanks,

    David

Standing on the Side of Love aims to move through Unitarian Universalism to the broader world. We want everyone to stand under the banner and feel it is their own.

This is not solely a UU campaign! PLEASE, there is NO need to play up the UU logo or name more than the name already is! In fact, I’d consider replacing the “Unitarian Universalist Association” on some of the merchandise with “Harnessing the Power of Love to Stop Oppression” and a small “www.uua.org” so that the UUA can be found. To me, a UU, this campaign is about INCLUSION, not self-identity. What if an atheist or someone of another religion or denomination wanted to celebrate the campaign but not promote UUs? The merchandise, in the spirit of love, should be as inclusive as possible, not a sales tool. OTOH, I think that adding different colors just dilutes the message—there are white (and black?) merchandise for those individuals aren’t fond of the gold background. And who came up with that AWFUL rainbow heart on the SSL Web site? A DISASTER—takes an inclusive campaign and segregates the GLBT community. Will we have special hearts for divided immigrant families, antiracism, pro-peace actions, etc? Let’s stand AS ONE on the side of love.
I’m not sure how to respond to the person who asked for “Sitting on the Side of Love” for those in wheelchairs—I understand the desire to acknowledge and reflect the physical reality but, for me, “standing” in this context is metaphorical—during the Watergate hearings, Barbara Jordan—wheelchair and all—was certainly “Standing on the Side of Justice” in my book.

  4. Rev. Michael O'Kelly says:

Personally, I like “Idenity.” Afterall, there is no real
“Inclusion” if identities are watered-down. Personally, I think it a mistake to have removed the UUA identification from the banners, T Shirts, etc. of this endeavor. Also, to take a “real stand” for anything is to stamp it with one’s identity. Integrity is an “I AM” event. There’s no inclusive
WE ARE, to get excited about, if the intensionality for such
springs from something generic rather than a ME. Obviously,it’s too late for my opinion to mean anything.
Furthermore, we’re only talking about banners and TShirts.

  5. Rev. Imari Kariotis says:

I like the universal approach without linking it to just the UU path. First and formost we are all human beings. I thinks it’s wonderful and has a very inclusive feel.

    Hi, Susanna–

Can we purchase the smaller hand-held SSL placards that appeared in photos of the Oct. 11 march in DC?

    Thank you!

  7. Julie-Ann says:

Any chance we can get the banner in a vertical version, or atleast get the content on a file so we can print them ourselves in that format?????
