Well worth watching.
This PSA was launched by the Spread the Word to End the Word campaign, an on-going initiative from Special Olympics and Best Buddies to eradicate the derogatory use of the word “retard(ed)” from everyday use and promote the inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
I’ve fought this battle for years; in the schools, in my family. It never made sense that otherwise rational people, who were sensitive to other racial and socio-economic slurs would find derogatory use of this word acceptable. Thank you for making the effort.
Yup, I’ve been fighting too, for my baby sister, but it just never seems to end.
