Monday, February 14th, 2011 is the 2nd Annual “National Standing on the Side of Love Day,” when the very heart of the Standing on the Side of Love campaign comes to life. On this day, and the days surrounding, we re-imagine Valentine’s Day as a holiday of love and acceptance for everyone.
In 2010, we were confronted with so many stories of bullying and name-calling. There were partisan divides, labels and stereotypes, and political decisions motivated by fear.
But how many stories can you remember that shone the spotlight on courageous love?
National Standing on the Side of Love Day is our opportunity to honor courageous love, and recognize those whose words and deeds exemplify the values of inclusion, diversity, community, and equality. When we stand on the side of love, we let our communities know that how we treat each other truly matters.
Here are some ideas for how you can honor the unsung stories of courageous love all around us on and around Feb. 14th:
Recognize Courageous Love at a Public Event or Sunday Worship Service:
Bring your congregation or community together at a worship service, celebration, or social justice event to recognize courageous love and its positive impact in our lives. Tell us if you plan to host an event or find an event near you.
At your event, honor an extraordinary local individual, community partner, or organization with a “Love Award” for exemplifying the ideals of courageous love. Click here for some ideas of potential events and honorees.

Recognize Courageous Love Online:
You can shine the spotlight on the courageous love in your life by telling your online community about people you know who exemplify an unshakeable faith in the power of justice and love.
