Courageous Love: Joan Nelson

When Joan Nelson become a Unitarian Universalist she did it with her whole heart. She can’t stand to see anyone hungry or homeless. She doesn’t shy away from the mentally ill and dines frequently at the local.

Two years ago, an interfaith community decided to provide shelter during the rainy season. Joan led the effort for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin to provide shelter Sunday nights from December through March.

Is it just a place to sleep on the floor? No, each guest is treated with dignity, sometimes receiving a massage or a musical serenade.

Joan has led our rotating shelter for the last two years. We honor her for welcoming the homeless, the down and out, the mentally ill and treating them with dignity.
