Courageous Love: Nancy Fordyce

Versailles, KY

Doris Niles is a mentally challenged woman who lives in a group home with others who can not communicate on her level. She loves coming to UUCL, and almost always brings a drawing for our minister, Cynthia. For years, Dorothy Jenkins has driven her to church and kept her company, at first as a caregiver, then later as a friend. When Dorothy was ill for several months,Nancy Fordyce, our webmaster and a long time UU, who is going through chemotherapy and other treatments and tests, worked hard to help find rides for Doris, and whenever she could, brought Doris herself in spite of considerable physical challenges. To me, all three of these women exemplify courageous and noble love, the kind that reaches out to those less privileged, and lends a loving hand. Doris is so proud to report that John Jacob Niles is her uncle! When we asked her during the award service why she likes coming to our services, she said, “I just like it!” We just like Doris, too.

Thank you, Nancy Fordyce
