Courageous Love: Chartis Tebbetts
February 13, 2011
Standing on the side of LOVE at First Parish in Cohasset, Massachusetts, five members of the congregation stood and spoke about “When Bullying Happens” with personal stories from their lives. Taken together these were a powerful testimonial to the far reaching affects of bullying. Following Steve Brown, Pat Baird, Chartis Tebbetts and Pat Facey’s stories, Rev. Dr. Anita Farber-Robertson invited our guest speaker, Barbara Green, PhD for the Cohasset Coalition for a Caring Community to address “Reflections On Living With Kindness: Building A Culture And Climate That Is Anchored In Empathy”. She thanked us for taking a strong position by leading us to fully understand the spiritual, social and emotional impact of bullying.
The current project for the Cohasset Coalition for Caring Community is a pledge, which is as follows: “I,_________, pledge to promote respect for human differences, to stand up for the basic rights and dignity of all people, and to avoid behavior that is hurtful to others.”
Those who sign the pledge, receive a blue bracelet to remind them of the importance of living in kindness. To date, nearly 3000 Cohasset residents, students, and people who work in our town, have signed and pledged to support kindness, respect, tolerance and dignity for individual differences.
“Love Awards” were given to First Parish member, Chartis Tebbetts for her tireless work in the community and beyond, and to Trish Morse who represented the Cohasset CARES organization.
