Courageous Love: Zach Wahls

On April 22 Zach Wahls received the Courageous Love Award from his home congregation, the Unitarian Universalist Society of Iowa City for his work on Marriage Equality. Zach spoke with courage, eloquence and love about being raised by two parents in front of the Iowa House Judiciary Committee. On that day, Zach had no way of knowing that the video of this speech was going to go viral on YouTube, but he did know the urgency and need to speak out on behalf of marriage equality. His actions have inspired us all. Since that January day, Zach has been interviewed on television, has traveled extensively giving speeches, and is anticipating the April 26th release of his book about being raised by two mothers. Here in Iowa City we know Zach in other roles, such as his work with a local college environmental group, participation in a social justice trip to New Orleans when he was in high school, and his role in creating a political video with his high school U.U.youth group.
